Hampton County School District Celebrated Ribbon Cutting of New Hampton County High School

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., Hampton County School District (HCSD) proudly hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for its new Hampton County High School facility. The event was held on the front patio of the school and brought together community leaders, students, and other dignitaries to celebrate this significant milestone for the district.

The ceremony featured remarks from the South Carolina State Superintendent of Education, members of the Hampton County School District Board of Trustees, HCSD Superintendent Dr. Glenda Sheffield, and a student representative. Their messages highlighted the importance of investing in education and creating opportunities for future generations of Hampton County students.

SCDE Superintendent Ellen Weaver assisted in the ceremony and shared her thoughts about Hampton County’s choice to invest in our school system, stating:

“Years from now, people may not remember the ribbon we cut today, but they will remember what this school made possible. The most important thing being dedicated isn't a building. It's a belief that every child in Hampton County is worthy of investment, capable of remarkable things, and created with unique gifts and God-given potential. This school stands as proof that greatness is not determined by your ZIP code. When high expectations are matched with high support and meaningful opportunity, our students can stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone, anywhere in the world.”

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, modern learning environments, and enhanced facilities, the new Hampton County High School has been designed to support student achievement and success. Dr. Glenda Sheffield emphasized the significance of the new facility, stating:

“Our new high school represents far more than a new building; it is an investment in the future of Hampton County. Through expanded Advanced Placement, cutting-edge Career and Technical Education programs, and innovative learning spaces, we are creating opportunities that will empower students to compete and succeed in a rapidly changing world. Every classroom, lab, and learning environment has been designed with one goal in mind: ensuring our students graduate prepared for college, careers, and life.”

Dr. Sheffield also highlighted the many opportunities available within the new high school, including expanded Advanced Placement offerings, enhanced safety and security features, and modern Career and Technical Education classrooms. These spaces will provide students with valuable skills, industry-recognized certifications, and hands-on learning experiences that can prepare them to enter the workforce immediately after graduation, if they choose.

HCSD Board of Trustees Chairperson Mrs. Marsha Robinson echoed these sentiments, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to student success by providing Hampton County students with exceptional educational opportunities and ensuring every student has the resources needed to succeed.

“Our hope is that students of Hampton County High School leave with the knowledge and confidence to pursue whatever path they choose. We want the very best for all of our students, and this facility is just one example of how we are making that vision a reality in Hampton County.”
