On eLearning Days, students and teachers do not report to school, but will complete classroom activities using technology, and other learning experiences, if applicable, as assigned.

On eLearning days, teachers will be available to students and parents during school day hours. Lessons provided may include videos, readings, listening activities, independent assignments, and other instructional materials and activities. Packets may only be used as appropriate for age or accommodations to provide materials for student work. They may not be used in lieu of digital instruction.

Districts that meet the criteria for an eLearning district as determined by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) may use up to five eLearning days to allow for the make-up of short-term disruptions to in-person teaching and learning interruptions (e.g., power outages, water main breaks). An eLearning day is used on the specific day that schools would otherwise have had to close due to an unforeseen emergency or when a make-up day would normally be used. eLearning days are designed to offer more flexibility to avoid loss of instruction due to school closings or to manage necessary make-up days that are already included in the school calendar.

Yes. Hampton County School District eLearning assignments are designed to be a logical continuation of learning experiences used in the classroom and aligned to state standards.

Teachers will deliver content and post their assignments in Microsoft TEAMS.  Students will download eLearning assignments to their devices ahead of time at school as part of the teacher’s emergency plan. Our schools will schedule a Mock eLearning Day, early in the semester, where while at school teachers will show students how to retrieve and complete their digital lessons just like they will do during a real eLearning Day.

Teachers will communicate through Microsoft TEAMS, Parent Square, and email.

Parents are responsible for encouraging their child to complete eLearning assignments. It is helpful to dedicate a space and time for students to complete eLearning assignments.  Parents should email or assist their child in emailing the teacher if questions regarding eLearning assignments arise. Parents can also contact teachers through Parent Square.

HCSD Communications Department will notify staff, students, media, and other partners of an eLearning day decision and status. The district website and social media platforms will be updated to reflect schedule changes. Teachers and staff will facilitate and support instruction during eLearning including email, Parent Square, TEAMS calls/meetings, etc.

Students and parents should reach out to the teacher through email, Parent Square, or Microsoft Teams to try and resolve technology issues. If the teacher is not able to assist, a Help Desk Ticket should be submitted. Click for Help Desk Ticket System

All students will initially be counted as present on the eLearning Day. However, if the assigned work is not completed and submitted within the 3-days, the student must be coded as absent on the day that school was cancelled. Since their assignments are just like any others, failure to do their work will be graded in accordance with the teacher’s grading policy.

As a district, we are still held accountable for attendance on an eLearning Day. Students will be counted present when they:

• Complete and submit their digital assignments on an eLearning Day

-OR-

• Submit completed assignments within the three-day make-up window

If neither of these options are utilized, the student will be counted absent and assignments

graded in accordance with the teacher's grading policy.

Many HCSD students and teachers have the ability to access digital learning away from our schools. Using eLearning does not mean that all households must have internet access. We understand that emergency situations can have an impact on a student’s ability to be in their regular home and this may impact access to the internet as well.

Students will have 3 school days from the last closure to submit assignments.
